Faith Kipyegon Set To Run Mile Under 4 Minutes
Kenyan middle-distance runner Faith Kipyegon is set to attempt a historic feat: becoming the first woman to run a mile in under four minutes. This ambitious endeavor, dubbed “Breaking4,” is scheduled for June 26, 2025, at Stade Charléty in Paris.
Kipyegon currently holds the women’s mile world record with a time of 4:07.64, set in 2023. To break the four-minute barrier, she would need to shave over seven seconds off her personal best—a significant challenge in middle-distance running.
Nike is providing comprehensive support for this attempt, similar to its previous “Breaking2” project with Eliud Kipchoge. The initiative includes advanced running gear, strategic pacing, and other performance-enhancing measures.
While the use of pacers and specialized equipment means the result won’t be officially recognized as a world record, Kipyegon’s goal transcends record books. She aims to inspire women worldwide to pursue ambitious dreams and challenge perceived limits.
Kipyegon’s illustrious career includes multiple Olympic and World Championship titles, as well as world records in the 1500m and 5000m events. Her upcoming attempt at the sub-four-minute mile represents another bold chapter in her pursuit of athletic excellence.
